Housing Rates and Meal Plans

Lamar University offers affordable housing and meal plan options for students in the residence halls. The all-inclusive housing rate provides fully furnished suites, Internet, and all utilities costs paid. There is 24-hour staffed security monitoring with resident card access and live-in professional and student staff on-call 24 hours. Each residence hall has a common area full kitchen, activity area, free washer/dryers, and resident access to the outdoor swimming pool, basketball, and volleyball courts.

All rates listed are per semester, per resident. All rates are contingent upon Texas State University System (TSUS) board approval. Housing rates are subject to change. Students residing in university housing are required to purchase a meal plan.

  3. 10 weekly Meal Swipes at Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall + $350 Dining Dollars: $1,792 per semester
  4. 90 Meal Swipes per semester at Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall + $450 Dining Dollars: $1,627 per semester
  5. Summer Plan: 50 Meal Swipes + $100 Dining Dollars: $549

  • What are Meal Swipes?
    Meal Swipes are used throughout the semester at Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall for an all-you-care-to-eat experience. Each entry is 1 Meal Swipe.​

  • What are Dining Dollars?
    Dining Dollars are tax-free currency used at retail dining locations on campus.

  • Do Dining Dollar balances roll over from semester to semester?
    Dining Dollar balances do roll over from Fall to Spring semester terms. However, Dining Dollar balances do not roll over from Spring to Summer/Fall or Summer to Fall terms. They expire on the last scheduled class day of the designated semester term.

  • Can I change my meal plan?
    Meal plans can be changed up until the 12th class day of the current semester term.

  • What if I have special dietary needs?​
    Lamar Dining Services can accommodate many dietary needs. If you have a food allergy or need dietary assistance, please contact their department or email dining@big5vn.com. Lamar Dining’s culinary staff is trained to develop a delicious solution to meet your needs. However, you must select a meal plan before a request for exemption will be considered.

Incentives for Current Students


Residence Life offers a special incentive for Lamar University students in good standing living in university housing.

Current LU residents (2023-2024 academic year- Fall & Spring semesters) who sign a housing contract for the 2024-2025 academic year are eligible and will receive a $400 housing credit for the 2024-2025 academic year ($200 per semester).

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Residents must live in university housing for the entire academic year immediately prior to the academic year in which the housing credit is applied;
  2. Residents must have completed at least 30 credit hours at LU;
  3. Residents must have at least a 2.86 cumulative grade point average;
  4. The resident’s account balance with the university must be current and
  5. The resident must occupy a room in university housing when the credit is applied.
Residents who have a university or academic scholarship or an athletic scholarship from LU are not eligible for the housing credit. The credit will only be applied to room rent in university housing. The credit will not be applied to meal plans, tuition, fees, books or other university charges nor will the resident receive the credit as cash or cash equivalents.
